It can be considered a bad word, like saying BullS*** when you're playing a card game. Let's say somebody says that they're putting down 2 aces, or 3 tens. Say you have three aces , or 4 tens in your hand, then you can call BS. which means bullcrap, or B***S***. Hope that helps out:)

BS usually stands for bull-s***. Yes, it is a vulgar expression; hence, the asterisks in place of letters. It's an expression usually used to express disbelief of something said or done, or to express disdain for something said or done. In the former, it's similar to calling someone a liar. In the latter, it's similar to saying, "I hate when that happens!" and not joking about it.
