Senator Rangel proposed the idea with the subnote that it would compel the sons and daughters of politicians to go to war, thereby ending the war immediately.
And Bush doesn't have the political power to do so anymore, he's as lame duck as a lame duck can get. Only 3 out of every 10 people still support him as the president, the Congress has shifted left, and military leaders are giving him the middle finger, something they were afraid to do years ago.

It is the democrats that want the draft
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,230598,00.html
Personally, the draft would bring in so many negative people that it would weaken the military. The people that are there are volunteers, they want to be there, they have the right attitude.
Draftees would not have the pride or the guts to do the job right. They would only be counting the days and destroying the morale.
Every person in the military today is a hero, they joined for their country, (certainly not for the money), they stand straight and tall and proud.
My thanks to all of them!! Merry Christmas!! No matter where you are and what you are doing, you are making our world safer for us!

The President is against the draft, and actually the Military is not too fond of the draft idea either. This is an initiative started by a stupid democrat.

No. As a former member of the Selective Service Board, I can tell you that the draft is not being considered.

The president cannot re-enstate the draft. This can only be done by Congress. The same way as to which only Congress cannot declare war.

Why do you ask? Do you have issues with serving your country?
You want the benefits but do not want to contribute any thing!
Any one that has issues serving in their country's military should give up the Citizenship and go else where.
America has elected to have a military. No one has offered a resolution to disband Americas military. That means, every American should support it, too include serving in it!
