They want me to pay $49.95 to be a Gold member and be able to go on these cool assignments in which they pay for my groceries, haircut, oil change, etc....in order for me to rate the service I recieved, along with payment for time and mileage? Should I try it and risk losing 50 bucks, or is it a scam?

I wouldn't do it. If you decide to try it, absolutely DO NOT give them your credit card number for the 49.95. Just remember the old saying, "better to be safe, than sorry".

I am a Mystery Shopper. There is NEVER a charge to become a mystery shopper.

They are charging you $49.95 to purchase a BOOK about how to become a mystery shopper.

The following website is a good start for information:
http://www.mysteryshop.org/shoppers/forum/

One never pays to become a Mystery Shoper, NEVER. You get paid to Mystery Shop!

The pay is low, but, it's fun and sometimes you keep what you purchase as well as still getting paid. I have received free CD's, free lunches, dinners, Godiva Chocolate, 2-gallons of paint,
as well as numerous other household items.

One must write well and submit reports in a timely manner faxed to the Mystery Shop company by the indicated deadline.

What you described is DEFINITELY a SCAM.

You have to register on the website of each Mystery Shopping Company that interests you.

The site below lists companies where you apply as a Shopper: for now, you should apply to one or two companies until you feel comfortable with the process and procedures.

There are MS companies on the site below:

For more info on MS'ing go to: mysteryshop.org (the organization that regulates the Mystery Shopping Industry.)

When you register on a MS site, you must give your name, address, phone and SocSecNbr and whatever other info is requested. This is, of course, so you can get paid.

Most Mystery Shops pay $3.00 per shop. Some pay more if it is a complex shop. You must write well. It helps if you are familiar with an Excel Spreadsheet as sometimes you must complete your MS report on Excel, not often, but sometimes. You may get to keep the product for which you shopped. A free dinner if it's a restaurant/diner/fast-food shop.

As a new Shopper it may take some time before you are assigned a shop. Current and best shoppers get preference for shops.

Most of them are scams. It was on the news the other day that the FTC is cracking down on "work at home" scams since they stole $87 million from conusmers last year. I'm not sure what company you are planning to be a Gold Member of so below is a link you can type in the name of the company and see if there are any reports of the company being a rip-off

A girl at work used to be a mystery shopper. Dont know if it was the same company as this, or not. But she was always coming in with her reimbusment checks for food, and groceries, and hair stuff, all kinds of things. She had to buy out of pocket, but they always reimbursed her, Plus some.

It's a scam . There are some legit ones, but you will be on a waiting for a while. the Neilson rating service is good. If they ask for money up front, they are a scam.

SCAM, reported on the BBC news, yesterday!
They send you £50, and then ask you to mystery shop a bank, by depositing £1500 into the account, using your bank details.......lol
If you have received money, SPEND IT, and DENY that you received it, it will serve them right!

It's a scam. Any time the company is collecting money from you to allow you to work for them, you should think twice.
