When I first entered the working world, I was in a retail position. The owners did not celebrate Christmas, as they celebrated some thing different. I learned to say Happy Holidays out of respect for all the different ways holidays are celebrated. On Christmas day I say Merry Christmas.

I have always said Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I'm personally getting tired of people want things their way! Just like having to have 2 Languages, If you live in my country, speak my language or quit whining. Say what ever, just don't tell me what I have to say.

They are being politically correct in not assuming that the person they are talking to is a practicing Christian. That other person may be about to celebrate Hunakka or Kwanzaa or whatever, but they usually turn round and say, "Yeah....and a Merry Christmas to you too!"
Sometimes being sensitive can go too far....

Cause nowadays we have to be politically correct about everything. We can't say Merry Christmas because we've excluded the guy who celebrates Chanuchah and the lady that celebrates Kwanza and the freak by the water cooler who celebrates Festivus.
But I say screw that!
December is Christmas time!
Always has been, always will.
And a MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not everyone celebrates Christmas, however there are several different holidays around this time of year...Kwanzaa, Hanukkah...etc. They may also say Happy Holidays referring to both Christmas and New Year.

Maybe Christmas isn't their holiday? Maybe their holidy as Kwanzaa, or Hannukah, or Ramadan, or .....
Maybe they aren't sure Christmas is your holiday, and they don't want to offend you.
I just wish a Merry Christmas, and see what comes back. Sometimes it is Merry Christmas, sometimes it is Happy Hannukah. Never been wished a happy kwanzaa.

In the changing world of political correctness, some people want to play it safe and not "offend" anyone who may not be Christian, or celebrate Christmas.
Happy holidays can mean Hannukah, Kwaanza, New Year, whatever!

Who says you have to be politically correct? I am tired of having to be "sensitive" to a whiny minority of people. Merry Christmas!
