The first step to stop procrastinating is to be aware of why people procrastinate.

From an economic point of view, the further into the future something is, the less value it has. The closer it comes to the present, the more intense it feels.

Here's two situations that I'll use to illustrate: Having a book report due and watching movies on dvd. So, when you have two months to do a book report, most likely you will not do it on the first few days because the value of doing it decreases a lot. You say to yourself, "I'll do it next week. I'll watch my movie on dvd instead." If you examine this situation, you'll see that since the homework is due two months away, it just isn't that important at that moment, and since the dvd is right there in your hands, it's value is really high. Therefore, you will watch the dvd, rather than do your book report. That is, as things get closer to the present (from the future), they become reinforcers and punishers. As any psychology major can tell you, reinforcers and punishers are really powerful.

So by this logic, the closer the book report due date comes, the more intense it feels.

How do you stop procrastinating? Be aware that even though two months is a lot of time to do a book report, most people end up doing other things (such as watching dvds, talking on the phone) in the meantime, because the value of those things are higher than the homework that is due in two months.

The second step is to decide that you will do your homework now. You must make that decision.

Finally, once you've decide you want to do it now, you plan. Come up with a plan as to where and when you will study. Saying specifically the place and time you will study makes it easier to take action.

Hope this helps you.

Break it down into little steps.
You say that you know what to write. Keep building on those initial sentences.
How long does the book report have to be? You still have more than 10 days before school begins again. If you write a little a day, you'll be done in no time.

If it's only a "silly little book report" the pressure hasn't built up enough to start doing it. Give it a few more days and when the pressure has built up enough, procrastination won't be an issue - but lack of sleep might be after you get done pulling the all nighter to write it.

I think you are procrastinating because you probably dont have the interest to do it.

But, since you must do this silly book report...and you have a "writers block", check out this website to help guide you through writing your repot.

Try to get started on this before christmas, and especially before new years so you can enjoy it. If you start alittle tonight, and work through it the rest of this week you should be done before christmas (which is this coming monday)

Come on girl, you can do it!!!

Don't put off until tomorrow what you can procrastinate about until Friday...
Make a schedule and stick to it, at least until you retire. OR become an anarchist and say "to hell with the system" and live in the woods eating rabbits or something.
Civilization isn't all it's cracked up to be. Schedules are for automatons.

You want to distract yourself, so do so - for a hour.
Then get started doing a little bit.
Then break and do something else.
Then you will have an appette to do it, as your mind will have worked on the problem in the break.

Prioritize!
A, B, C, D to do list.
Under A, you list the things you Absolutly have to do right away.
Under B, you list the things you Better do soon.
Under C, you list the things that Could be done later.
and Under D, you list things that you can Delegate to someone else to do.

Than do exactly what you wrote on your list...in that order.

Set a daily goal and write it down. Let yourself do something fun after you complete it. Make it a little game.

first of all, get off the computer. now make yourself a calander or a planner listing what parts of the report you should do on each day (example: MON: outline, TUES: first draft, WED: cover, etc) your welcome.
