Tony Blair has spent the last few days trying to escalate tensions with Iran by sending out a series of veiled threats.

In a speech in LA, he called Iran a "strategic challenge" and despite a total lack of proof, accused Iran of "openly supporting terrorism in Iraq to stop a fledging democratic process."

On Wednesday in Dubai, Blair demanded an international "alliance of moderation”. Why? Blair says “to defeat the extremists". Meaning Iran.

He then directly warned Iran "If you export terrorism around the region and destabilise democracy in Iraq, we will confront you."

A pretty clear threat. How dare any nation destabilise Iraq, after our gift to the nation!

The Iraq Study Group recently called for the US to open talks with Iran. Is Blair trying to provoke President Ahmadinejad to give a response that provides Bush with an excuse to avoid talks?

Are they accusing Iran of destabilising Iraq, so the US & UK have Iran as a scapegoat & excuse for their failure?

Why provoke Iran now?

P.S. I’m not defending Iran – I’m asking why Blair’s picking a fight we can’t win.

All - I agree that Iran has a human rights problem & a nut case running it. I can see why Iran is an issue.

My point isn't really that though. My point is why is Blair being so aggressive & trying to pick a fight now?

Our troops are pushed and we can't have Iran getting upset and making things worse. What's the point? Iran is contained for now and only has its President talking big.

Yes - Iran is bad. But let's get Iraq & Afghanistan stable. I'm fed-up of seeing soldiers die because of Politicians errors. Such as saying 'bring it on', breaking Iraq's Army up, failing to buy body armour, etc. etc.

So, please don't teach me about Iran - I know all about it. My question is what's Blair's game here?

I agree with your conclusion.
B-liar is using the oldest political trick in the book, DIVERSION.
The fact there is massive criticism of his actions in support of Bush - they need to create another DEMON to divert attention then use that identified threat in future to justify ther actions in the past.(prove they were right and the world wrong)
"Broaden the War on Terror" by justifying the "War on Terror"
What they have actually done is simply created and justified "War Based on Allegation" directed at everyone or country they don't like alleging it has or will have WMD and should be attacked preemptively this is called "War Mongering"
These are dangerous and sick people and must be stopped.

Short answer: Bush.

It is of interest however that the Iraq Study Group's recommendation to open talks with Iran is also getting a lot of flak. I have not read the full report or seen the evidence, if there be any, regarding Iran's support of terrorists in Iraq or elsewhere for that matter. so, the jury may still be out on those points. We can only speculate at this point that the stance taken by Blair is no different from the one taken by his Atlantic partner, Bush.

I think Blair is trying to provoke President Ahmadinejad at the behest of President Bush.

I in basic terms disagree together with his white 0.5. The unaffordable Healthcare Act replaced into advertised as to save funds. It does not, hasn't and could no longer. So there is not any way it is going to assist the companies. particularly the companies are dumping workers, so as that they do no longer would desire to take part. The unaffordable Healthcare Act is a approximately administration and easily one small step in a lots larger plan. companies decide directly to decrease expenses, that's why the business enterprise I paintings for has tremendously promoted wellbeing reductions plans, which runs opposite to the Unaffordable Healthcare Act. you apart from mght have been blind to the emphasis on earnings inequality. If that may not approximately socialism, what's? BTY: I strongly help Justice Thomas, as maximum conservatives do.

The president of Iran not only threatens Israel but the US and Britain. There are interesting news articles in Iran Focus-News that may help you answer this question. You will find more detailed news for Iran there than any American web site.

Blair is bushes puppet and both of these Muppet's are as guilty as each other and should be facing war crimes themselves.

Iran is playing a cat and mouse game. Ahmadinejad has two faces, one saying we want to help with Iraq, and one of death to the Jews and don't interfere with our nukes. Blair i would assume is calling him out to hopefully show his true face to the world. Obviously the second of the two.

Iran has said they want to wipe out Israel.
That is the same as kill all the Jews.

He then directly warned Iran "If you export terrorism around the region and destabilize democracy in Iraq, we will confront you."

That is a promise not a threat.

I don't think anything that Blair says can be taken at face value. It will just be part of his effort to cling to power.
