2 jumps gave me lights but wouldn't start. New battery still won't start. Makes no sound when I turn the key. Alternator or starter? No clicking, nothing. No probs with this car for a year. Any ideas?

sounds like you might have a loose battery connection at the starter

the starter has a relay on it,and fuseible links.i would check my starter connections first.and the ground cable.if the connnections are clean and tight, and the battery is new.look to takin out the starter and get it tested.i guess thet i should ask, when you put the new battery in do you have all other electrical working?lights bright,radio,horn.ect.if not its a connection somewhere.usually ground.if so take a pair of jump cables hook it from ground of battery to the engine block somewhere.if it works, bad ground.hope this helps.

Have the AAA guy come try - but No sound is usually the battery . . . was the new battery connected right ?
Good battery you would hear the clicking, just would not turn over if it was the starter.

it will NOT be your alternator causing you not to turn over. I would first ensure that battery is charged and ready to go. if it doesnt even click, it sounds like an switch has flipped... i.e. its stick and you have to have the clutch depressed for it to start or it is not in the "p"ark position. on vw's the seatbelt not being attached will cause it not to start. check all your "safety" features first!!!

good luck.

check the fuse box. The starter fuse might be down.
