With NASA announcing plans for a permanent space station to be constructed on the southern pole of the moon, it looks as if that's a viable possibility in the coming years. Just wondering, if there was an established colony on the moon, would you live there?
I would, totally! I think it would be cool as hell!

"The Man In The Box" has the discription pretty much right. A tax-funded (imagine the expense) base manned by elite military and scientific types, selected by bureaucrats. What interests has NASA shown in space tourism (where the average person gets to go simply because they want to)? NONE. A colony could come quickly or never depending on the governments' willingness to abolish space law and allow private entrepreneurs and companies to exploit and homestead (imagine private property on the moon -- this could be industriel as well as residential) outer space for profit.
Get a good size chunk of the commercial economy off planet and the people will follow. Keep space travel primarily in the hands of NASA and the government (and they'll use the neverending war and "national security" as an excuse) and we will always be planetside looking up.
And why shouldn't a moon colony have a Starbucks (they could well have helped sponsor it)? It doesn't mean you are obligated to buy from them (not that there is anything wrong with that either). The presence of a Starbucks or any other commercial franchise on the moon would be a sure sign of the successful colonization by ordinary folk, because it wouldn't be profitable to be there if they didn't have an adaquate customer base *based* there.

Yeah, probably. It would be cool to be on the moon. But, that is a long way off. The "colony" will really be a small station occupied by 3 or 4 scientists/astronauts. An actually city will come years after that.

Nope.
There are no good rivers to fish in.
There are no good night clubs to visit.
There are no good gambling casinos.
It is to far to travel to visit Elvis's mansion on his birthday.
Taxi's on the Moon are reported to be really infrequent, and I
hate waiting.
There is a lot of dust on the Moon, and dust makes me sneeze.
Harley Davidson's don't work on the moon, so I have no real interest in going.
If it ain't a lot like Texas, I don't wanna go.

yeah. just make sure you don't get any of that solar radiation that will fry and kill you within a few minutes if you get out of your spacesuit (it will give you cancer in due time, even with a spacesuit too), not to mention that 20kg oxygen tank you'll have to carry around.
but maybe that electric field tent will become a reality, then you'll only have to deal with powerful electromagnetic fields coursing through your body the entire time.
but yeah, its a possibility.

Nope. I would miss too many things on Earth. Things like the ocean, lakes, forests...I think I'm fine where I'm at. =)
