When my mother was filling out the Canadian census, she wrote down that I have asthma. I guess they assumed that, since I still live at home, and was unemployed at the time, I am disabled. They keep phoning me, asking me to do a survey about my disabilities. I've told them numerous times that I am not disabled, and that I'd like them to stop phoning me, but they won't leave me alone. They phone me like five times a day, and I usually don't answer the phone, but my younger brothers do, even though I've told them not to.

Is there a way to get them to stop phoning me?

I don't know what the consumer laws in Canada are, but in the US we have a "Do Not Call List" that consumers can be added to upon request. If a consumer constantly calls, they can be fined. You should make a log detailing the dates, times, who called (always ask before they make their sales pitch because they will be in a nicer frame of mind), and contents of the conversation. If it is a debt collector, here all you have to do is to write a letter to the offending agency and tell them to cease and desist the calls. They have a right of one more call and that is to tell you what course of action they will take. But other than that they can't call you again. The offender can be fined as well as the agency.

We have the Federal Trade Commission that controls these issues here in the states. I don't know what is comparable in Canada. I would also suggest you contact a barrister for advice. Usually the first session is free.

If all else fails, unplug the phone.

Get caller ID and an answering machine, and get your brothers to leave the phone alone!

It might not stop then, but no solicitor of any sort wants to talk to an answering machine. And if you have their phone numbers, you can either call them back and tell them to stop calling you, or you can report them to the appropriate agency. I'm not sure who that would be in Canada though.

Good luck!

Try some of the things the other people have written, and when they don't work, get rude. I mean really rude! Get in their face with bad language, use the calls to get things off your chest, totally vent on them. After awhile you'll start looking forward to the calls, but they'll stop.

i'm undecided of the criminal end of it, although those calls have surpassed the criminal decrease and it's time to get with the FTC, Federal commerce Commision. in basic terms placed, you're being harrassed, and that's against the regulation, incredibly for the reason that those people consistantly have the incorrect social gathering. you could evaluate calling the police in this, additionally.
