no, you dont need to get rid of them, there is something in their feces that is harmful to pregnant women,,, but all you need to do is have someone else, if possible, clean the litter pan,,,,, or if you need to do it, wear rubber gloves then wash with anti baterial soap,,,,, also, make sure if someone cleans it,, they also was with that type soap, and dont touch door handles/faucets, until they wash,,,,,, i always turn the water on, before i touch the pan, that way when im done,,,, i can wash up,,,,, and im not pregnant,,, it just seems like a good idea

Cats themselves can not give you or the baby anything. I had a cat the entire time I was pregnant and my baby was 7 lbs 15 oz perfectly healthy in every way, my cat on the other hand was house trained, she meawed to go potty outside even in the rain. It is what is in the cats droppings that are harmful to unborns. If your cat is litter trained, someone else will have to do the lovely chore of cleaning the cat box and it should be cleaned daily plus certain types of litter are more toxic so check that out if your cat is house trained there is no problem at all.

I am pregnant with number 4 and have had cats here my whole life!! It is the Cat Litter that you need to be concerned about. I wouldn't get rid of the cats....just have someone else change the litter. Their are also studies out their that having pets in the home helps your child to reduce the risk of becoming alergic to cats/dogs and many other things vs a home with no pets. My kids love our two dogs and two cats... and in our house, our pets are treated no different than any other person in the house! They are family too!

Its cat LITTER that is dangerous to the baby when your pregnant.
Something in the litter contains harmful (to the baby) chemicals when breathed.
So you could keep the cat litter in a room you rarely go in and have someone else clean and change the litter.
Or maybe give the cat to a family member or a friend to take care of for awhile to be super safe.

It should be fine if your cats are clean, but you do not need to clean out their litter box because you can catch toxoplasmosis. It's easy to catch and most people with cats have caught it at some point. You have flu-like symptoms. It's very bad for the baby. Honestly it would be safer to have someone keep them for you until your pregnancy is over.
When I was pregnant, I kept my cats outside and I would put on latex gloves before I petted them. Kinda sad, I know, but I didn't want to chance it. Better safe than sorry! :-)

the concept pregnant female might want to remove their loved cats is absolute and finished nonsense!! As previous answerers have reported, the basically difficulty would nicely be the probability of toxoplasmosis that may damage an unborn fetus, yet to be straightforward, in case you've lived with cats for any length of time in the course of the approach your existence the probability is amazingly severe that you've come into contact with the micro organism lengthy sufficient to be immune with the help of now. nonetheless, its a superbly good excuse to rope your husband/boyfriend/important different/roommate into searching after cleansing the clutter field for a lengthy time period!

You don't have to get rid of the cats. My doctor just told me not to clean the litter box because there is something in there BM. You could ask your doctors opinion, but I wouldn't get rid of my cats if I were you.

This is a great chore for DAD. I have a cat and 2 kids and my kids are fine but it's the litter box that you can't go near. there is something in the litter that can affect the fetus. So, ask your hubby to take over that chore.

You can keep the cats, just dont handle the kitty litter or its feces. The reason people say this to you is because there's a parasite in some (not all) cats poop that can wreck havoc on your unborn baby.

NO that's not true. It's an old wives tale. You shouldn't change cat litter anymore - that can cause problems. Have your partner do that. The chemicals in cat urine is bad for you while you are pregnant. If you are really worried about it talk to your doctor.

You don't have to get rid of the cats, but someone else should be cleaning out the litter box. They should be fine with the baby, but they might be jealous. Good luck.
