Because people in small towns are barely literate and have terrible grammar skills.

Because the big cities have more amenities to offer; more educational opportunities; more people to fill the jobs; more skilled labor. Also, big cities can afford to offer property tax breaks to businesses and industries. Some small towns can afford to offer tax breaks, but many times, small towns need the property taxes generated from the business just to continue offering services. i could go on, but this is the nuts and bolts.

Most economic growth occurs in the large cities.

Keep in mind, though, that there is always demand for doctors in small towns, because most people with that kind of education want to live in a big city.
