I recently priced a 30 Amp Cutler Hammer GFCI breaker for my dryer and it runs about $250! Is there a device that I could mount in a juntion box that would do the trick for much less?

I've never seen anything like that myself.

This one on ebay is cheaper.

GFCI is not required on a dryer anyway. After you install it you just might get nuisance tripping because of the inductive load from the motor.

a dryer don't need to be gfci protected.. you just need a 2-pole 30 amp breaker 10 wire and 30 amp receptacle

Well you have found the best and for you purpose it will do the trick. currently there are no gfci devices used in the private sector. however the industry has in the future specultated that such a component will be availible in the early 2007

The biggest problem with clothes dryers is fire and is more
prevalent if you have a gas operated one. You wont be touching
anything that would short you out, unless you are messing around with stuff when you dont know what you are doing.
Leave the maintenance to the service techs.

Yes, Check with an electric supply house, unless you are in a really wet environment they aren't really necessary, if you are getting bit, it may be static, an electrician can test this out with a VOM in about a minute.
