This question is in relation to the answer of a question: " 10 points for being the only one that wasn't simpathetic. keep telling it like it is and enjoy the 10 points.". Why do straight people think I need their sympathy? Why so straight people think that somehow they are better people if they support or say positive things about queer people? What, do you want a meddle ? Because I dont really expect a meddle for supporting hetero people. Just wondering.

Maybe I need to like explain my question with really simple words. Also, this question evolved around a quote that some body else posted on an answer. Perhaps, the question is too complicated. What I wanted to know was that why do straight people assume that queer people want sympathy. The correlation to this was the premise that I said that straight people do not need MY sympathy for being straight. I apologise if the wording of this question was not straight forward or was difficult for anyone to understand.

I think a lot of people assume that being gay is really hard. I mean, having to come out to your parents? Religions rejecting you for just being who you are? I think also that a lot of people who think it must be awful to be gay haven't fully accepted that there is really nothing wrong with being gay, but that there is something wrong with a society that makes being gay a problem.

As a very 'straight' Sasquatch...
I cannot understand why you would think this! And, at the same time, I guess I can! I don't really care about the 10 points. Your wellbeing as a human being is most important!
Do you consider this (above) sympathy? It is, in a strange sort of way! I care about other folk, most folk do! You are one of those who does!
I have a large number of friends and aquaintences who are gay.
And yes! Some folk are affraid of people who are different from them.
But in todays world, most folk are TRYING (some very hard) to make peace with those they used to consider different. Yeah, we are all different! But people want to learn to understand.
You, as a gay, cannot honestly understand what it is to be straight any more than I can understand what drives you!
All in all - sometimes people are not trying to interfere, just to understand - to get along!
Be happy with who you are and that others care about you! Don't be so paranoid! Not all of us have intentions of 'meddling'!
Just MHO,

I haven't run across many straight people who want to give me their sympathy. I have run across straight people who are willing to add their voices to make people pay attention to the equality issues that queer community faces.
It is a matter of power and privilege, in this case the power and privilege of straight people. This power and privilege is not an inherently bad thing. And people who hold the power are not inherently bad. It's what they DO with the power that is important. And by having more and more voices within the privileged community speaking for us we will be able to go farther than with our voices alone. By having straight people speak out it makes the issues everyone's problem.
I could ramble on about this more but it wouldn't make sense to. I probably sound too sympathetic but that's okay. :)

Because our community is too often (mis)represented by Aunt Marys who cry and whine instead of demanding their rights. There are many prominent gay people who don't take the stands they should and there is an overwhleming majority of us who believe everything that straight people tell them - that we oughtn't be allowed to marry, that we shouldn't be permitted to have children, etc.
There are a lot of good straight people out there who stand shoulder to shoulder as equals with the queer community, but there are many more who think of us as pets to be kept for entertainment's sake and even more who don't listen to what we say, only how we say it.

I don't think gays want our sympathy (they don't get it from me), they just want power and the spotlight. That's why they work so hard to get it. Straight people just go about their business of living while gays work hard to shove their lifestyle in everyone's faces. Gay Pride Parades...need I say more. Gays work so hard at being accepted that their lives seem to evolve around that rather than just living. I remember when "gay" meant you were happy. Queer would be the more appropriate title. And queers need to remember that pride goes before destruction.

If straight people are sympathetic to YOU perhaps they feel sorry for YOU being YOU, not necessarily for you being gay.
People who support the gay community want to support the gay community. The fact you can't accept their good-natured gesture at face value tells me you conciously want to be petty and recalicitrant for the sake of throwing a temper tantrum.
Drama queen!

I know this is a cop out but it takes every fiber in my body just to maintain a normal hetero relationship.I really don't care who loves who for what reasons.

Who put that thought in your head? The only complaint straight people have against gays, is that they brag about who they are, and uninvited, they try to impose their peculiarity upon others.
