What are some ways we can stop children from playing violent video games? More and more children are playing violent video games and they are becoming more aggresive. How can we stop them from playing such violent content? I myself propose a new rating system where ratings become based on age not content which is similar to the MPAA ratings for movies.

OK, I am a teen too and I like violent video games. But I do not want my school to be like Columbine and have these teens who have played so many violent video games to lose grip on reality and start thinking video games are real. Parents however, are the best way to stop teens from playing violent video games but the problem is they do not. Basically, it is only the government who can make a law to stop teens from playing violent video games. Parents should stop teens but many do not so maybe a law should be created. What should this law be? Maybe a law where parents must monitor their children's take of vilent video games. What do you think?

What do you think if:
A new law should be created requiring all schools across the nation to have an annual workshop that parents must attend each year. This seminar should have doctors, psychologists, and police officers discuss the dangerous effects of violent video games on children. Parents should be able to come to realize that they need to say no to violence inside their homes.

Some ways to prevent kids from playing violent video games are having more alternatives to the violence. I suggest some education games maybe. I know the violence is rising on these games. I think maybe the parents should be more aware what they buy for their children. They shouldn't just buy it because the kids want it. Most parents are not video smart and take their word for what's on the game, Educate the parents to exactly what is in the game the kid wants. Some kids are more advanced than other kids, so the age rating might not apply to all games. And violence is violence, not matter what age the kid is.

Firstly, your assumption that violent video games make children more violent is completely unjust. In fact, since the original Playstation came out there has been a steady decline in the number of violent crimes by teenages. Do not believe the hype that Jack Thompson and Hillary Clinton are spreading! Columbine and other school shootings, as well as other shootings have been blamed on video games when the real problem was the PARENTS.
If you have children and dont want them playing violent games, thats fine, dont let them. They're your children, they live under your roof. But please, dont try and tell all children in this country what they can and can't do. Its not your job.
The rating system put in place by the ESRB is fine, and mimics the MPAA's rating system. E for Everyone (like a G rating), T for Teen (like a PG or PG-13 rating), M for Mature (like an R rating).
Remember that movies are not ristricted based upon age unless they are NC-17 (aka X) rated (at that point they are considered pornography and handled differently due to obsenity laws). There is no law that says a 15 year old cannot see a rated R movie, its just that most theaters enforce that rule on themselves (okay, fine, MPAA lobbies them to do it, but its still not illegal)

Yeah I am thinking what ever video games Attila the Hun, Napoleon, Adolph Hitler, Vladimir "The Impaler" Dracula, and even "Jack the Ripper" (to name a few) played when they where younger, those are the computer games and should be outlawed.
Why not talk to your children and get to know them then see how they think and how their minds work. You could be surprised that it can just be genetics at work.
It sounds like music and how people are about heavy metal and the type.
People do not get changed or influenced by this stuff, they pick music and vid games because that is what they like and they will Seek out what fits them.
Think about it, put your self in your kids shoes for a moment.
Do you go buy something and hope it grows on you? Do you go purchase an ugly car and say "Well maybe tomorrow it will look better."
NO you pick what suits you and your opinion and inner thoughts.
You could be surprised if you do get to know your kids, you could love them more or better yet, you could find the next mass murder. Then you can help them do something about it before it happens.

Don't do that.
What u should do is remember that kids know what is real and what is not. Seeing their parents agruing everyday, not being stuck in the underbelly of Mars with a shotgun against soul eating demons will provoke them to believe that is the only way to solve problems. Have u seen these games, for a child to beat up another child because of what another game character blew his guts on the street is funny. Parents will believe anything, trust me, I once said the devil made me do it and my mom believed it. Stop looking for an excuse and do something.
Maybe ur child fights cause that the only time mom and dad will stop ignoring them, even if the child is getting his *** beat. Have u done case studies of children where they live and where they pick up violent behavoir. If u did u might solve something. What stop and adult for doing the same thing? He knows better, when did he learn better? When he was taught, if ur never thought, u never know? Video games.....if they could do so much, shouldn't they be teaching classes or something.

There is nothing wrong with violent video games. The only people that are violent are the dark brooding ones. The emos and goths. Kids are nto getting ideas from video games, they get ideas from other kids who grow up with a violent family or in a violent place. I played violent games all the time growing up, and I never became extremely violent.

Definitely not outlaw them. I think you have a great idea. Also, alot of it comes down to the parents. They need to be responsible for what thier children do, and to teach thier children. Games and the internet are what televsion was like when I was a kid (70-80's). We pretty much had free range until people figured out that could be harmful. Right now children have free range on the internet and games, but I think people are starting to realize that is not good, and are making more of an effort to protect thier children on the internet, and place limits on the types of games thier children play. At least that is what I am seeing as a middle school teacher.

The best way to stop children from playing violent video games is to share your time with them. Play with them healthy and phsical games like criket, Table Tennis, football or you can play indoor games. Kids need your time and your attention so do give them your time and care.

The rating system just informs kids which video games are the ones they're not supposed to have, which makes them try to get them even more.
I disagree with your blanket statement that children's aggression is due to video games. But ignoring that, it is ultimately the responsibility of parents to raise their kids with proper morals and behaviour. This is where the greatest part of the problem begins and ends.
Edit: You can make all of the laws you want to. It's apparent you are a teen because you don't understand the problems with making laws that are difficult to enforce and place an extra and unnecessary burden on the police force. Parents need to parent their kids. This is where it all begins. Children are a responsibility and you shouldn't have them if you're going to shirk your responsibility. Society isn't supposed to be there to do your job for you.

alright, only problem with your idea.. is that it is dumb.. im writing about this for my college english class.. and it doesnt work like that really.. it will not work effectively, just because it is there, parents wont give a crap, they'll buy them and let the kids play anyway.. honestly, you cannot effectively in any way stop kids from playing.. and you cannot stop producers from producing lol.. just gotta suck it up, and sit there. and there is age ratings, and they do check to see if the people buying the games are old enough, im barely an adult, and i am id checked for video games.

Kids will get the games and play them regardless what the rating is. It is up to the parent to NOT let their kids own them or play them. My son plays games that are rated M and I have to buy them for him but the games he plays(m rated) are war games which have actually helped him in his history classes at school because of the country's and locations, bordering countries etc. I do not let him buy or play the violent games such as grand theft auto nor do any of his friends parents. It really is a parents responsibility to know what their kids are doing but unfortunately many kids are home alone for long periods of time. School sponsored awareness programs for parents are informative.
