Why does time slow the closer to a higher gravitational field or if matter is sped up?
Try to explain in general terms, without details into general or special relativity, can use some, what is the correlation between speed and high gravitational field in slowing time?

Here goes - and without the math.
According to Albert Einstein, the effects of acceleration and gravity are exactly the same.
Also, as an object approaches a significant percentage of the speed of light, time slows down. If it were possible to achieve the speed of light, time would slow to a stop.
Distance also shortens - it is this distance and time dilation that makes the speed of light exactly the same - regardless of the motion of the observer!
It is generally accepted now that time and space are pretty much intertwined. Gravity warps the space and it is this phenomenon that also effects time. There is no question that time runs slower at high altitudes than on the earth's surface - by exactly the amount predicted by the formulas (See Lorentz Factor). This fact has been proven repeatedly in tests with atomic clocks and high flying aircraft. There are also experiments that have proven that when sub atomic particles are accellerated to speeds approaching light, their half life is extended by the same porportion as their time reference.
Unfortunately, I doubt if anyone can give you a definitive answer as to why these things happen - it is just the way the universe works, I guess.

let us have a thot experiment...

c u r un a rocket ri8...
nw u hve two mirrors exactly opposite of each other actly they are ur clock...u hve one ray of light which is moving between those two mirrors

__________________-1st mirror
I
I-RAY OF LIGHT

I
__________________-2ND MIRROR

c i hve tried to make a diagram...nw c the distance between those two mirror is say 1 meter...nw ur rocket is moving with a very large spped so what happens here that ur ray which was previously moving exactly verticly is now moving inclined those mirrors so the distance has increased here so as the time to reach to 2nd mirror from 1st mirror is increased u can say that the time has slowed down and the distance has increased
