Does anyone know the name of the type of filthy creature that Gulliver encountered in the land of Houyhnhnms (in Jonathan Swift’s famous “Gulliver’s Travels”).

The person below who says I am wrong in calling the Yahoos humans may or may not be right. One can argue that the Yahoos aren't the same as humans, but many critics including me would disagree. That reading denies Swift's famously savage humour and misanthropy, and ruins the joke. Swift was nothing if not a great jokester.

Yahoos...the answer above is wrong...they are not the same as humans...they are simply meant to embody the worst parts of humanity to act as a foil to the horses who represent the best of humanity...Swift is simply asking the question, if we are stripped of our "civility" (i.e. clothing) are we savage Yahoos or noble Houyhnhnms (sp?)?
