I think he sat down crossed his legs and meditated. And then decided never to say yes or no..

He thought Chinese kingdoms were at war with each other because of a failure of leadership (virtue).

Living at a time of war, he believed that order would come after leaders and populations adopted three virtues.

These were jen (pronounced more like "ren," meaning Humanity or Benevolence), xiao (Fillial Piety - respect for one's elders), and li (Proper Ceremony).
