Ok on December 11, which was a week ago Monday, I started experiencing pain in my lower right belly, down in the pelvic region. I waited until Thursday to go to the docotor although the pain lasted until Wednesday, (I was not experiencing pain on Thursday). I saw my family doctor she did some tests, and a pelvic exam. She thought it was a ovarian cyst, which I had one in the past. To be safe she wanted me to get an ultrasound done, which was done yesterday. Today they called me and told me they wanted me to talk to the doctor about the findings of the ultrasound. I don't have a regular gynecologist, so they schedualed me to see someone and I can't see him until Jan 4. My question is if it was really serious, wouldn't they schedual me sooner, my other question is if its not serious why can't she just tell me over the phone?
Thanks very much.

You sound really worried and you have a right to be. I have had overian cyst pass through my uterus before and it was exactly like you were describing, I had to go to the ER for the pain and do an ultra sound the following day. They told me that the overian cyst had already pass through, and put me on pain medication. In the past I have really painful cramps and did an ultra sound, they schedule the ultra sound for a week in the future and when they did it it took about a week for the result. I assumed nothing was important, if something did show up while doing the ultra sound then you would have been rushed in. The ultra sound seems like it perhaps came back positive and if when you were doing the ultra sound the person doing it was in a calm mood and not alarmed then you probably are fine. Good Luck.

Hi there
There are different kinds of serious. There is the life threatening serious where they would call you in asap and there is the serious where it can wait but will either make an impact on your life or they feel you need to be more educated about something.

If you have had cysts before it most likely is a cyst again...however, it could be larger where you may lose an ovary or something in that regard. It could be an STD that they need to educate you on, an infection....it could be so many things.

If it were life threatening you'd have already been in. Try to enjoy your holidays.

Good luck and take care

I don't think that they are supposed to talk about test results over the phone. The doctor may want to do some more tests or prescribe a medication. My guess is that they would get you in quickly if it was serious, but it is also time for Christmas vacations. Don't worry though, don't think too much, I really don't think that they would postpone you from getting any information that was important to you.

Well, there don't seem to be any alarms going up and it sounds like they just want to explain their findings to you and discuss possible treatments. Ovarian cyst can be shank or operated on and removed. There should not be any problems with either method of treatment. It just depends on what you want to do and what you are comfortable with. There is no reason to be afraid although it can be scarey not knowing what to expect. According to the information you are giving, everything should be fine. I hope this helps you. Merry Christmas!!

I agree if it were seriously serious they would see you sooner. Why can't they call your regular Dr. and give him the results to tell you? I believe the reason "they" can't tell you over the phone is that they(secretary, receptionist etc) are not qualified to discuss it with you. Why don't you get a gynecologist? It sounds like you have female problems and they can monitor you on a regular basis.

Kinda sounds like you're worried, but my answer is its probably not that serious. Doctors generally don't want to tell ppl things on the phone, because if you go in, its another appointment, and more $ for them, right? ;) Ok, jk. But they will call you in for the smallest reasons. Don't worry about it.
