job wise, and doesn't look like a dump/high crime.....and what places are bad?

I wouldn't live in Dallas or Houston. I live in San Antonio and I love it. It has a small town atmosphere plus the economy is good. Yes we have our share of crime, but I don't think it is as bad as Dallas or H-town.

Dallas/Ft. Worth is nice, so are San Antonio and Austin. I lived in Houston for a couple of years and the traffic and urban sprawl was getting out of control.
Stay away from El Paso, and the Rio Grande Valley if you need a job with a good wage.

ALL OF IT IS BAD STAY WHERE YOU ARE!!!!!! lol no seriously I just have have had several dozen bad experiences with texas more specifically El Paso. But overall the San Antonio area is wonderful! Good Luck with your search.
