I know they are not bears, but are marsupials. Shep Smith on Fox just called them "joeys" and I wondered if they were called the same as Kangaroos?

All marsupial infants and young are called Joeys, so yes, a Koala baby is called a joey.

Koala babies are called joeys as are wombat babies , echidna babies are called puggles.
