3 main concerns:
1. The CPU AMD Athlon Quad is useless because it cannot play out it's power due to the lack of suitable software. some tests showed that a dual core CPU is as fast. the same statement is valid also for the Intel quad core CPU QX6700 Kentsfield. in most cases the task manager shows 2 unused cores.
2. for that price you should get 2 video cards 8800GTX 768MB
3. the price of round $5000 is generally too high.

if i would spend that amount of money i would get all the parts from Newegg for less (btw, i build myself all my desktop PCs).

i have another suggestion for you for the main parts:
- mobo: SLI mobo with the nvidia chipset nforce 680i and socket 775 (Intel), e.g. the EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX.
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6650 (it will do the job by far and is much cheaper). you can overclock it easily up to 3GHz when using a Zalman cooler.
- Ram: 2GB PC2-6400 (Corsair, Crucial or Kingston)
- Graphics card: Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB

do once the test and add all the prices of the parts you need on the Newegg homepage. i guess it will be far below the $5000.

What an idiot, there is no way it will be obsolete in 18 months! I have a Dell Pentium 3 700mgz processor with 512 mb of ram and a 128 mb video card RUNNING WINDOWS XP and many other applications JUST FINE.. THAT COMPUTER IS 7 YEARS OLD. in case you didnt know 7 years is more than 18 months, its 84 months.

with a computer like that, i can see it lasting a good 4-5 years, and still be ahead of the gang technology wise. however 5 thousand.. well Im not sure it is worth 5 thousand, i mean, i can get pretty much the same thing from dell for a good 4000.. minus the games, keyboard/mice and temp meter.

Ypu are getting an amazing pc for $5g. Let me add it up for you, the prices I'm listing are top of the line.
1)neon lights $150
2)1,100watt power supply $350
3)amd processor about $1200
4)games up to $200
5)liquid cooling $500
6)motherboard $400
7)ram $400
8)8800 gtx graphics card $700
9)physics card $250
10)hard drive $400
11)drive $400
12)sound card $230
13)speakers $500
14)Lan $50
15)monitor $400
16)keyboard $80
17)mouse $50
18)temperature meter $100

These prices equal over $7000. Any real gamer would love to have this system. The new windows vista will cost around $400 to upgrade. The graphics card is the newest graphics card from nvidia and it is the fastest in the world. It is the first compatible directx 10 compatible graphics card. This computer will probably not become outdated for a while and the motherboard is probably great for any upgrades in the future. This is an amazing computer and probably the only thing you should do is upgrade to more ram. Most PCs today only are able to be upgraded to 4gigs of ram so this computer is on the cutting edge of comuter technology. You should buy this computer, a similar computer from alienware will cost you up $12000. You can always upgrade to newer hardware in the future because of your motherboard. Any true gamer will no they are getting an amazing deal.

***buy it***

I don't think it is a deal. It sounds like you are a gamer and are impressed by the flashy lights and seemingly cutting edge technology. You are paying only for the bells, whistles + sparkly mirrors. The heart of any system is the CPU, memory , storage and expandility. The important things like RAM, are on the lower end of what I would expect; you should get 4 GB RAM in the pkg for that price, 500 GB HD is on smaller end. Regardless of size, check out HD speed; at least 10,000 rpm at that price. 20" LCD is really on low end for the price. I would have expected a larger LCD, and if you are looking for graphics performance, CRT's are clunky, but out perform the slow LCDs.

What about optical drives; DVD-ROM, DVD+/-RW, CD, Blue Ray...., External ports and convenient placement...?

Really, the config is OK to good, but not exceptional or extra special, mostly smoke. Great to have the best CPU, but this is a small part of the pie. Better to get the Dual CPU for SW that is now or soon available and max out the RAM. Also consider that you may need to do other things and/or spend an equal amount of time doing tasks that don't require such expensive gaming trappings. Sure, they make it sound cool, but don't lose your head over the fancy lights. There are similar systems for less. I guess it gets down to whether you want to buy somebody's xpensive sys or do it yourself, save some bucks and buy more games and the upgraded components that are necessary and the best for what you want to do,

Before you buy, make sure to check out other systems and established suppliers like Alien, as well as building a box to your specs and then adding your own customizations. I promise it will be alot cheaper and alot more fun to know that you built the exact machine you wanted yourself.

It's only my opinion.......
Good Luck and have Fun

Is this a serious question? You either have a lot of money to spare, or you have a need to have 'the best' ('the best?' Says who? ibuypower?)

You haven't actually said what you're going to use the PC for, which (in my opinion) is the first thing you should consider when buying a PC, but paying $5k for a PC is way too excessive in my opinion.

I agree with a previous poster, that you should get dual graphics cards for that price - the motherboard has slots for it, so why not fill it.
Rounded cables are standard nowadays.
No TV tuner card?
HDTV features?
No HD-DVD or Blue Ray?

In answer to your question though, I would say no, but if you can afford to spend that amount of money on a PC anyway, then does it matter if it's worth it or not?

I don't agree with the answer regarding the computer being obsolete in 18 months. The industry is still around a P4 at about 1.2 GHz for minimum standards. This computer is well above that. Truthfully I would not spend more than $1,700 on a system since most games are written for systems far less powerful than the one you are buying. You also have to understand that most responses that you get in regards to questions such as yours, will be from home amatuers that have never worked in the industry.

For that style of money i might get a Falcon Northwest or Alienware desktops. "a million, one hundred watt potential grant (the suitable)" = no longer, except it quite is a potential grant from pc potential & Cooling, now it relatively is the suitable. "3. AMD Anthlon Quad Sli CPU (the suitable)" = NO back. AMD beat Intel on the P4 however the Intel Quad middle is a lot greater suitable than the AMD quad middle. "6. twin pics card motherboard with 7 PCI slots","8. Nvidia 8800 GTX 768 megabytes video card (the suitable)" = particular, for this reason. "15. 20 inch liquid crystal demonstrate video demonstrate (the suitable)" = Questionable, because you probably did no longer record the video demonstrate type, yet Dell and Eizo makes between the suitable video demonstrate obtainable. it quite is a robust gadget yet no longer super.

I can't tell you want to buy, but if you got the cash you can afford any computer system you want. Personally I won't recommend this setup. There is no need to have such a powerful pc. Most applications don't require that much computing power, not even games. After 1 year or 2 this setup won't be so impressive. Get one that best fit your needs.

Except for the 3 year warranty (and it's not free...it's figured into the price already), you could build a comparable system yourself for much less money.

Hi. $5 g is a lot of money for a PC, even a nice one. It will be obsolete in 18 months or so, but the question is, Is it worth it to you?.
