You buy a book that shows you step by step, starting with the easiest folds and working up to more difficult projects. It is very important to have the right paper, very thin, different color on one side than the other, and perfectly square. It's fun for kids and very satisfying for adults who can make complicated figures. You can also try kirigami, which involves cutting the paper instead of just folding.

I have done some origami and always enjoyed it. There are books at the library that can show you how or you can probably google it and find some websites that can teach you some basics.
