I have a home built in 1978 and I want to get rid of the popcorn ceiling. My realtor suggested I get it tested for asbestos prior to removal, but...if I get it tested and it is positive, it could cost several thousand dollars to remove it. Should I test for it?

Do not get it tested. Remove it yourself. Your chances of getting cancer from removing your ceiling are about equal to getting hit by a meteor. The cancer rate among asbestos miners is about 5% and they worked 8 hours a day for decades with asbestos.

Artex stopped utilizing asbestos of their products round 1985. Asbestos is elementary to locate interior the laboratory and interior the field with not some thing more beneficial than a low-power microscope. If the lab says they detected no fibers, i'd trust them. An air try would coach asbestos fibers because asbestos occurs evidently and fibers are embarked on the air as asbestos-containing resources are eroded with the help of wind and climate. also asbestos continues to be utilized in some business applications. you'll nicely be overreacting to this. at the same time as authentic, asbestos has led to ailment, maximum of those circumstances were from prolonged publicity to severe concentrations.
