I am from California and spent a decade in the Army and I AM NOT a liberal. As for liberals joining the military, I have yet to meet one. 85% of the Army is made up of registered Republicans, probably another 10% Democrats, and then a few loons making up the last 5% and I can tell you for fact that they don't last very long in the military. I also fell into this 5% due to me being a Libertarian but not a nut job liberal. I applied common sense and honor into every detail.

They learn why the majority of the military is not liberal. After that, they either get out or decide not to be liberals.
Kate: If you had said 'most former military are liberals', I would have said, that's why they got out. But you said 'most liberals are former military'. The military has never had that many members.

This does not make sense. You cant say liberals are cowards and then ask what happened to the ones that did join the armed forces.

i dont think those liberals out there in the land of fruits, nuts and flakes would join the military. that would look really bad on their tight knit social groups, and nothing means more to them than what others think of them..
