If they're properly taken care of, Koi can live 30-40(!) years. Apparently there are even records of Koi living to 200(!!) years.

Certainly surprised me.

The average lifespan of a well cared for Koi is 70 years. However it is not uncommon for them to live 100+ years in Japanese gardens.

Supposedly there was one fish, Hanako, that lived over 200 years.

Around 20 to 30 years is most common.

But some have been recorded to living as long as 250 years and growing to the amazing length of six feet.
