United Way....there should be one within county that you live in. United Way helps the community with distribution of the funds they receive. At least you know your money goes to help those in need locally. Especially the children.

Charity comes from the heart , so if you have to ask it doesn't mean a thing . You give to whomever you want there is no set rule , do you even know what charity is ? If you see a woman or a man standing outside your door step freezing and you offer him/her a cup of hot coffee or chocolate or even a blanket or some clothes that you don't need anymore , this is charity. It's not just walking up to some person ringing a bell and throw in some money and walk away feeling better for yourself , you see you won't see the smiling face of the person you've helped at that time nor the pleasure it brings them knowing someone really cared , Do you understand charity now ?

Have 3 that I concentrate on during Christmas:

1. Salvation Army - local red kettle drive. A high percentage of donations stay in the local community.

2. Santa's Elves - run by county department of social services to provide Christmas gifts to needy families.

3. Feed the Children

I help serve dinner at my local homeless shelter on Christmas Day. I also give to the Salvation Army when I go into stores but not all of them as this can get really expensive. I just find serving dinner and having that hands on experience...is special.
