We can thank our schools for it. God forbid that we make any kids feel bad by asking them to actually study.
We can thank the teachers unions for hiding incompetent teachers.
We can thank the ACLU for eroding discipline at school and in the home.
We can also thank the Principals for "Zero Tolerance" rules which keep them from actually having to make decisions.

I am guessing it is more typing errors than true grammatical or spelling errors, but you are right to wonder. With instant messaging, too many people are abbreviating words and spelling is getting lost in the mix. Spell check on a computer often corrects words without a person actually learning the new word as well.

It really gets to me too! BUT!!! Do you think the people do not speak, read, or write English as their first language, This is a global site. That possibility just occurred to me. I know some people are extremely illiterate. But we don't have to answer them do we. I have found that the questions people ask that have spelling and grammatical errors are often to do with basic skills and knowledge. I would like to see a little flag of the askers country displayed beside his picture. Then we could be a little more tolerant of those who are trying.

Yes, and as quickly as I can. I feel so embarrassed, knowing someone might read it. And I just as quickly edit an answer if there are errors in it as my face turns red from the same type of embarrassment. I'm anal that way.

some might be 'typos' but most are probably just lazy (& dumb?). most questions asked on this site could be resolved much more quickly by opening a phone book, a dictionary or doing a search for the relevant info. but that would require a bit of effort which it would appear these days a lot of people just won't make.

A lot of people tend to overlook the spell check button. When this isn't the case, the answer is simply people are just too lazy to care.

You should have written out the words for 40 and % since they were together and at the beginning of the sentence.
Just thought you might like to be correct.
I know...thumbs down.

I don't believe this reflects intelligence. In this hurried world, people just don't seem to place much importance on what their written words look like.

Not necessarily "stupid" but potentially too lazy to worry or care
