Roy Williams is definitely the hardest hitter (Cowboys DB, not Lions WR). But the hardest hitter in sports is Carmelo Anthony... hardest on his team lol

Where did those 35, 30%s come from? If you divide Dawkin's 4 FF this year by his 87 tackles you get ~4%.

I'd put it between Dawkins, Sean Taylor, Roy Williams, and newcomer (well, in terms of starting) Kevin Kaesviharn.

Bob Sanders is an overrated hitster. He lays a normal tackle on a RB and the announcers say he can lay the big hits.........overhyped.

why is everybody forgetting the #1 vote getter for the pro bowl, #54 Brian Urlacher. He is definitely the hardest hitter in the NFL

Brian Dawkins and Sean Taylor lead the league in fumbles caused per tackle (35% and 30%, respectively). I haven't seen Dawkins play much, so I can't say if he hits hard or if he uses superior technique, but Taylor causes fumbles thanks to the hit itself. So I'm going with Sean Taylor.

Roy Williams is a beast , but he's nowhere near the top two in this stat.

Edit, RE: Andy T. I think your 4 FF stat is only counting fumbles recovered by the defense, not fumbles caused overall. Nonetheless, you're right that causing a fumble on 1/3 of your tackles sounds pretty high. I will check my source later tonight!

Everybody assumes that it is a defensive player because of the nature of the game. I would like to see one of these "hard hitters" in a one-on-one matchup with somebody like Orladno Pace when the offensive lineman is not hamstrung by the rules and see who comes out on top.
