When I picked up my son from daycare today he had the worst diaper rash, the woman who takes care of him told me about it and said that he had pooped 4 times and it just kept getting irritated.. Well when we got home he had pooped again, and he cried when i tried to clean him, so I gave him a long bath let him play and let it air out for a while then put butt paste on it.. It still seems to be bothering him??

Is it normal for him to have that many bowel movements, and is there anything else I can do for him??

Any input would be helpful.

Very normal.

Try Boudreaux's Butt paste instead of Desetin - it's a lot gentler.

Also, after the bath, use Burt's Bees "Baby Bee" lotion - it's safe for the diaper area and helps a lot. Plain Vaseline can also act as a barrier and protect the skin.

If he ate something that makes him poop like prunes... it's normal. But as much as you may not want to look at it make sure it's a normal color. I just took my son to the doctor after 4 days of constant pooping and it was a funny color and it ended up being an infection.

And for the diaper rash... constant cream. That's all the dr. told me.

Good Luck!!

This happened to my baby. Her doctor told me it was because of the fruits. The acid in the fruits made the bowel movements irritating to her skin. I just stopped giving her fruits until the rash cleared out, and after it did, I started to give her only small amounts of fruits.
I used several diper rash creams, the one that worked the best was Aveeno Baby, but I think other brands are just as good.

good luck!

If he has been drinking juice or eating a new food, stop that food. When this happened with my daughter, juice was the culprit, the doc said it was the acid in the juice making her stomach go nuts and poop. Her poop had more acid than normal and was eating away at the skin. Keep him slathered with A&D (by far the best product on the market) and change him at the slightest sign of wetness. Also, when you are trying new food (which will be a lot for a couple of month) slather him with A&D at every change to head this off. They are easier to keep away than to get rid of.

I don't think that 4 times a day is that unheard of. Try using the pampers diaper rash wipes..or us wet cotton balls when you are cleaning him up...also when you are at home lay him down on a water proof changing pad and let him air out for a while.

Are the bowel movements normal (not diarrhea). As long as they are normal, the number shouldn't alarm you. If he is throwing up there may be an infection. You did the right thing, use some type of cream after every changing until it clears up and let him run around Au natural as much as possible.

If he is having any sort of acidic food ... take him off of it. Even applesauce. apples are very acidic. Both of my kids get awful rashes from things too acidic, or too much fruit or juice in general. He could be teething ... My kids also got really bad rashes while teehing. Use Aquaphor on his butt. I swear by the stuff. It has been the only thing that has cleared up the worst rashes on both of my kids. I hope this helps!!

I have a 10 month old and he still does that....I usually give him a bath and then put A&D ointment on it. It's inexpensive and works like a dream. My son has alot of bowel movements when he is teething. I will sometimes give him tylenol if it seems to be bothering him.

i would call the doctor and see whats going on with him, use a diaper cream for the rash and try to keep it dry. or even dont; let him wear a diaper for a while. so it can get some air.
