I took my 98 Windstar to the shop because of no heat, and they told me that they needed to fix the manifold intake and flush something out. They said that the procedure will take 5 hours, but it took 2/12 days. When we got the car back they said that the heat was working, but it had some air that had to ride out, so the heat will work on and off for about a day. The heat has not worked at all. We had a new thermostat put in a couple of months ago, and they checked the water pump. I have four children that t have to take to school in Michigan weather. Is there a mechanic out there that can help

Someone else told me it could be the damper, but they said that they may cost about $800 to fix. Is that right?

i own a repair shop, here in Tennessee, and i took all my training there at ford tech, and gm tech center and also have ford experience,,and i know its cold there ,you need to check the heater hoses and see if there getting hot any at all ,they have to heat up,,for it to get hot,and give off heat,if there hot,and the heat hand says the temperature is hot on it the only other thing that might be wrong with it,,is its not letting the heat come in this is caused by the heater control center on the main unit,,where you choose the temperature for it,,those vans gave a lot of trouble with this,,try all the settings, and see you can get it to come out anywhere else if you can t it has to be the control center or the dampener thatt opens tha port that lets the heat in,,if you don't find it post me a message ,and we,ll get you heat ,,good luck Hope this help,s..PS we will do this on the phone if necessary,,good luck.,,its not going to cost you 800 to repair it.

first, yes you got scammed, unless the manifold was leaking coolant there should have been no repair to this.it is possible they did flush the cooling system or radiator if it was clogged.as far as the air in the system it should have worked out when the thermostat opened and coolant topped off.recheck you coolant level ,if it gets low enough, the heat wont work. crank it up with the radiator cap off and fill to level.or if it has a water resovoir, fill to the mark that says full.

Well, those vans had troubles with the damper control motor. The dampers that switch the defrost and switch from hot to cold have a tendency to brake gears inside them. You will hear a little click coming from them when you turn the control knob. There is one behind the glove box and another under the dash. Check the one behind the glove box first. Good luck.

well, if they charged you 5 plus hours labor, and didn't fix it, then you got took. sorry, but this shop owes you proper repairs, or a refund of what you paid. i suspect that it may be difficult for you to get any decent service or customer satisfaction here. if you are not car-oriented, then it will be difficult to explain how to diagnose the problem yourself. email me, and i will send you my phone number, and i will talk you thru how to check it out.art
