TV Soap Storylines, is it just me or are they awful these days?

Question

I mean..... take Eastenders for example.
Were coming up for Christmas and the usual big cliffhanger episode. But this year there is no storyline worth a cliffhanger. Apparently Pauline is going to die - but who cares?

Where are all the interesting sub-plots and dark characters? Where are the new people to support the tired old faces that we have to endure?

When was the last time you sat at work or with mates and talked about an Eastenders storyline. 1 year, maybe 2?

Things i can do without:
Martin & Sonya or anything to do with the daughter (boring).
Dot and Jim (boring).
Anything to do with the Phil or Peggy (dull and boring).
Ian and his sad little family (boring).
oh this list could go on for ever!!

We need a clean slate, kill off the old dead characters and for god sake bring in A LOAD of new people.

Have soaps had their day like reality TV?

What will be the next big thing on our screens?

Worst of all when they do get a good character like Jonny Allan, they blow it big time.

They had a great set-up. A character that was a known gangland kingpin, everybody was scared stiff, he was a man to be feared.... Then he actually appeared on the screen and within weeks they had him a bumbling idot more concerned with his family troubles than running his turf. He came in the hard man and went out as a nobody; a weak crushed man.

Why could they not have built on that initial character and made something of it?

i agree, every story line on all soaps are all the same, pauline in eastenders faked a tumour and now Cilla in corrie is doing the same,i can go on and on and on but i won`t bore you with details as you probably know anyway if you watch them, yes goodbye and good ridance to pauline, it`s just a pity she is going alone

what amazes me is that a member of a family leaves to go somewhere, eg. Michelle Fowler then you rarely ever hear her referred to, she's never at family gatherings, never phones home, god this list could go on forever too!!!!

Then you get another member of a family turn up who has never been mentioned before. Look at the Dingles in Emmerdale, how many more of them are there!!!!

I think the producers need to think story lines out properly!!!

i think they have run out of ideas and all the characters are really boring .nobody seems to enjoy life they are so depressing. stop watching about a year ago , if i want to know whats happening ,just read the t,v guide, it;s painless and don;'t have to watch all the long faces

I diagree but im a soap fan ive watched days of our life most of my life and im 58 and i really like passions its wierd at times but i think thats why i like it if you watch and someone new comes on thats bugs ya some times but like right now passions and days is is getting good again patch and kayla wow imagine that so kwel and in passions fancy is so beatuiful she belongs with loues i know i spelled his name wrong but wow what a hunk lol i hope fancy gets better and they get together does anyone know yet hmmmmm
