If you believed in the dealth penalty, were pro choice, for gay marriage but agree where the Republicans stand on welfare programs & gun issues? Would I have to choose which ones I feel stronger about since I can't have it both ways?

I have this problem every election, because I don't like republicans or democrats, but independents don't impress me either.

First, I look through all the bills that have been reviewed, vetoed, nullified, or ratified. Then I study the candidates and how they voted. I compare it with my own preferences, and the best matches usually are the people I vote into office. I don't care if they are democrat or republican. Why let a party of idiot politicians constrict you in your preferences?

I believe myself to be a Moderate Republican, but I don't all ways vote either republican or Democrat. Instead I look closely at the individual candidate's' platforms and decide who's ideals best match mine. I don't always do that either. Sometimes I try not to think in terms of just me, but what would be best for the whole country. I think dedicating your self to wholly to a party makes you lazy in your disicions and you will question opinons less.

Well, those beliefs sound very libertarian. But one has to come to the realization that third parties stand no chance, and the choice falls solely between Dem and Rep.

Go with what you feel strongest about. If its social issues, then Dem would be the way to go. Economic and national security issues, if you feel strongest about them, would most likely make a Rep your choice. Good luck

Gosh...you nearly described me !!! I'm pro death penalty, pro choice, and I don't give a damn who gets married (as long as its not me) Those are all social issues.
I'm for tight money, gun rights and against handing out my tax dollars to people that are too lazy to work.
The republicans get my vote every time because the republican party is the party of true diversity. Welcome aboard.
