i have located a wonderful guinea pig off of petfinder.com. the family that had it before was allergic to it. plus its already tamed, has been handled, etc. it prefers to live alone too. thats good because cavies are very social and i want one that will bond toward me more than its partner. just wondering what you guys thought.

its better to adopt any animal rather than buying one from a pet store.... most animals that dont get adopted get euthanized... the animals from a pet store are from mills that shut them up into tiny crates and breed the females as much as they can. they dont even take good care of them. so wether its a guinea pig or a dog..... please adopt and dont support the animal mills that sell there animals to pet stores... the less people buy animals at pet stores, the less mills make money and have to shut down(which is good)... anyway u said this guinea pig is wonderful.... if u like it then get it.

The best thing to do would be to hold off buying one today. Don't get three just because they are sold in that number. Get them only if you are comfortable with three. Two is a better number for a first time owner anyway, those three may not be right for you. But this doesn't mean you should opt to buying from the pet store instead. Pet stores get their animals from high-volume breeding mills. These are not very nice places for the parent animals, and by buying, you are supporting the cruel practice. Hold this of until you find the right guinea pigs to adopt. Check shelters and other areas. Also look on online classifieds for people trying to rehome their guinea pigs.

I think, adoption is great; at pet stores they sometimes mix up the sexes, and you end up with a pregnant animal. When you're adopting, you can be more certain that this is not the case - plus, you can find out more about the animal's temperament.

Adopt. You already have a good backround of the one you found on the web, and chances are if you buy one from the pet store it could turn out really mean.

Adopt. I bought a female pig from a pet store, and she has just had 3 babies! I wouldnt give them up at all, but it is much better to adopt to avoid 'mishaps' such as these.
Not to mention all the reasons above too!

Are you going to keep the pig as a pet? or are you going to experiment on it? If you are going to use the guinea pig as a guinea pig then you might want to use the adopt method.

Adopt. I bought one from the store, but I was young, only 10. I didn't know that you could adopt one back then! I used to think it was only cats and dogs lol.
