Ran all day to get the car fixed, go to the store for dinner, pick up a cake and gift for your mother-in-law, got a call on the way home that your kids were broke down in my daughters car (strange we all broke down the same day), had to run back to town again to look at the car and get it back home. Only to arrive at home to your husband who is mad KNOWING what all has happend, is mad because he didn't make it to his mothers at the given time. He acted as though I was out having a good time while he wanted to go to his moms. He yelled at me because I couldn't get it done fast enough. Then on the way home later after his mothers, he is mad because he didn't eat because I was gone all day, (he was home to make something) I told him I picked up groceries to make dinner. he stops at Subway and walks in leaves us (me&kids) in the car and gets Himself a sub. By the way the car I was getting towed is the one he drives that broke down while he had it out.

Just wanted to add I do talk, he is just selfish and don't care to listen. Everthing has to be his way all of the time.

First of all, yes, you're right the guy lacks empathy. He failed completely to think about what you were going through. But do understand, he's probably not really mad at you. He's just lashing out because his day sucked too. If you blow up, it just makes the situation worse. You'll scream at each other and your day just gets worse. Take all the anger you're feeling and bottle it up for later. Right now, try to do something totally unexpected. Anything. Do a handstand. Start dancing the mashed potato. Give him a wolf whistle and slap him on the rear. You get the idea. This will derail his train of thought which now becomes: "What is she doing?". It's kinda like a shrill whistle when your dog won't stop barking. You wouldn't bark back at your dog would you? Once he's staring at you with his head ****** sideways, make reassuring physical contact. e.g. hands on his face, light grasp of his arm, scratch behind his ear uh... forget that last one. Then proceed to CAREFULLY (you don't want him to resume barking) tell him how bad you feel for him and you completely understand why he's so upset. Then tell him you're pretty sure he loves you, and if he does, he'll understand you are unable to help him but appreciate the fact that you care so much. If this has no effect, you're in trouble. After a couple of days when his hackles are down, open up that bottle I mentioned before and take a newspaper to his backside.

Come on people, there are kids. Lets not be too hasty about the 'D' word.

Dear Mary,

Most men don't realize that we women were born with half their endurance and strength, and are not as equipped as they think we are to carry on with all the responsibilities.

And to make it worse, we are born with twice their sense of responsibility and self negligence.

I'm a mother of three, and sometimes I live through days like the one you described here. What I would do if I were you is teach my husband to appreciate me and all that I'm worth for this family.
On a similar day - unless it would jeopardize the well being of my children- I would play sick, stay in bed, and tell him: you fix it!

Let him deal with all the crap for once.

Well once a year at least!

You may think its too late for that- after all the years of marriage. But believe me, when it comes to respect and appreciation, much better late than never.

Good luck dear.
