This would depend on how many people are on your team. If it is under 5 people, I would say to get him/her a small gift, like a box of chocolates. If it is over 5 people, give him/her a card, but do not worry about a gift.
The other factor would be if the gift cards are all to the same place, or if they are different. If they are all to the same place, your boss was getting you a gift to be a good boss. . .if they vary, your boss went to a bit more trouble to personalize them for you. (And you should consider returning the gesture.)

Gift Cards are a good christmas presents for everyone because you know what shop they are buying it from and you know they wont spend the money on anything useless. Some good sites are :

I don't think it is necessary to give a boss a gift in return. Quite honestly, it is not necessary to give anyone a gift in return. If you feel better giving something, than do so. I am sure that your boss isn't expecting reciprocation.

I would say no, unless you are on friendly terms with your boss. If you want to show your gratitude, give your boss a card with a handwritten note (doesn't have to be long) saying that you like working together and wishing him/her and family all the best in the new year.
