Product usually means the final isolated material.

When Anhydrous Copper (II) sulfate (a pale green or gray-white powder) is mixed with water initially crystals of a hydrated form of the salt will form. The number of waters of hydration will depend upon the amount of water and the time allowed for any equilibration.

If water is added in excess, then the Anhydrous Copper (II) sulfate will dissolve completely and you will have Copper +2 and Sulfate -2 ions in an aqueous solution.

If this solution is allowed to dry without heating above room temperature, the the final product will be crystals of Copper (II) sulfate petahydrate (CuSO4 · 5H2O which is bright blue or dark blue depending upon the size of the crystals).
