oi... what is it with this not during the betta's mating season crap? there is no mating season. they mate when the conditions are right. when they mate they need to be alone.
you CAN but I wouldn't recommend it. at least not fancy finned guppies, the betta will mistake them for another betta and attack. try something without long fins, like mollies or platies.

Betta fish have an alarming temper they can get mad wheir there breeding or not. You shouldn't keep guppies with the Betta because it can cause the Betta to get aggravated and even if it doesn't eat the guppies it will hit them with it's head til the guppies are all dead. I have had this type of thing happen to me and i suffered a great lose because i was only 8. I don't think you want to experience any more drama and sadness right before the holidays. I hope you take my advice. Happy Holidays!

Mating season what are people talking about? A healthy betta is always ready to mate. That said females who can see males are much more aggressive. And males guarding a nest are just plain psycho. But you should be keeping male betta with females any way.
Male betta do okay with peaceful short finned fish if they got more than 5 gallons of room. Male fancy guppies are too betta like, and to slow to survive in a tank with a male betta. (Sure you might get a mellow betta, but they aren't the norm.) I'd go with platy or swordtail. They lack big fins, are peaceful, and can out swim a male betta. Female betta would be alright with fancy guppy, but some female betta are as aggressive as males. (I've had a female who beat up male betta, and bullied a 4 inch sailfin molly.) In general I just avoid it.

It really depends on the betta. Female guppies are almost always safe from the betta. Males with long flowing fins are much more at risk. But it depends on the individual betta, sometimes you get one that won't hurt a fly.

You might be able to get away with putting female guppies in with a betta. If you put any long finned colorful fish in with a betta it will get defensive and try to kill it.

I would not recommend it. It depends on the Betta though. Some strains are more aggressive than others and then each Betta is different. You can try it, but be prepared to buy a new guppy!

My beta lives in a tank with lots of other small fish and he leaves them alone. I think they're only aggressive when you have two male bettas together. You might want to ask a professional though.

Sure its okay to keep them together. As for it hurting you'll have to ask a guppie that question, ask the guppie while its being eaten by the betta. Find a store that gives away goldfish, in that way you don't have to feed them, you just keep replacing them.

If its ok with you if the guppy dies ( only with a male betta) or if the betta is female and NOT during mating season...then yes

So long as the bettas aren't breeding (which would make them more protective and aggressive), they should be okay together.
