No, he is not a Mormon, but I imagine where you are coming up from that is because it was the first KFC franchise that was opened in Salt Lake. Mr. Sanders did have his own business, but was not expanding at the time, and a Mr. Harman approached him and asked if he could open a franchise and use the recipe, thus the store in Salt Lake. The story continues from there.

RE:
Is Colonel Harland Sanders (founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC) a Mormon person?
Is KFC restaurant founder Colonel Harland Sanders a Mormon person? I assume this because he founded KFC near Salt Lake City, Utah, which is a densely Mormon area of the United States.

I would like to know where you got your info....
Colonel Harland Sanders was from the great state of Kentucky and opened his first KFC in Corbin, KY. It started out as the Harland Sanders Cafe in 1940 and has since been restored and is in operation. This is where his chicken became so famous.
As for his religious affiliation....he was probably a good ol' Southern Baptist but I really don't know.

Pete Harmon who is a Mormon started the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise. I don't know if he bought it from Colonel Sanders or if they were partners. I just drove pass the first Kentucky Fried Chicken in Utah tonight. It was rebuilt a few years ago. It looks a lot better.

I believe Pete Harman was the Mormon who helped Colonel Sanders establish the first KFC franchise in south Salt Lake City on State Street and 3900 South. It was actually torn down a couple of years ago and has either been rebuilt or is in the process of rebuilding. I haven't driven down that way in a while, but if you're interested, I could find out more for you. Below is a link to when the original KFC franchise was taken down 2 years ago.

no Colonel Harland Sanders is not a Mormon person
At the age of 40, Sanders cooked chicken dishes for people who stopped at his service station in Corbin, Kentucky.

I am thinking i know why you are asking about Cnl Sanders being mormon because KFC is based out of SLC now. KFC was founded many years ago and I think some of the responses explained that.
I am responding to your question w/this answer KFC is NOW controled by Mormons as well as Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silvers and also Pepsi. They fall under a group called Yum Brands...If you go to their website they still use the Kentucky address perhaps to keep the info from the general public. I am guessing because ppl have such a negative view on mormons. I knew this info years ago, but did not believe it. UNTIL I met a person that did distrubting for the company and she confirmed the information not to mention she said they were ruthless to deal with. Anyway hope that helps

No. He was a Christian. He came from Kentucky - not Utah.
