When someone is trying to thank me for something it doesn't matter to me whether they say thanks or thank you because it means the same thing. Thank you very much for the question and giving everyone a chance to answer it. Merry Christmas and happy Holidays. :o)

I say both. Depending on what it is. Like if someone got me a Christmas present I would say Thank You. If they say they like my sweeter or something I would say Thanks. You don't notice that you do it until after it is all said and done.
