I think the question is meant as a point being made.

I see this mistake made in the newspapers all the time. "3 blacks and one Asian and two Americans where being questioned regard the..."

When people think of an American, subconsciously they think of a white person 1st. I notice that a lot of foreign people who come over here to the USA also have that thinking in mind. In their heads blacks are not Americans, nor are Asians.

I am so American I guess(accent and everything) , that when I recently went to Italy and even when I went to England a couple of years ago, people just kind of "told" me I was American: "Oh! You're American..." no asking involved!

Happens all the time now and I don't have to go to a different country. I don't like it and don't see why it's even asked. I never fill it in. I am a human being that's my race.
