Go to the library or bookstore and open a book to a random page and read a few sentences. Do this until you find the particular book that captures you, one where you'll know you don't want to stop reading. That way you'll find what kind of subjects/books you'll like to read. And if nothing else, you'll read short bits of books in the meantime.

There could be many factors involved in you not liking to read. Some people never get into it. Some it just takes finding the right book. Your problem may be the fact that so much reading is required. When teachers force students to read--whether in general by requiring a certain number of books--or assign specific books, it takes all the fun and joy out of reading. I love to read. I have always loved to read. But I hated reading the required books for school. Pure torture. Chances are there will be a few books out there that you would like that could change your mind about reading. But you can't force it either. What kind of tv shows or movies do you like? You might start there. There are many connections between the two. You might try going to the library and browsing different genres--fantasy, realistic, mystery, science fiction, romance, historical, etc.

This answer is a little different than the others...

A person cannot force themselves to like to read. If you are a person who gets bored with reading, then you are probably a person who learns by doing things. We call this a "hands on learner". The hands on learner would perfer to get up and do something rather than sit quietly and not do something (physically). There is no shame in that.

You should just tell yourself that you will treat yourself to some activity after you have completed your homework. This will help you create a balancing act between reading and doing. Hopefully if you stick to a schedule of reading and doing, then you will start developing a tolerance to being bored, and you may even find that you actually enjoy reading because you are broadening your skills.

Start with something easy to read. If you aren't into reading it's going to be difficult to find a book at random that you will like.

I suggest starting in the children's section. Most are written to catch your attention quickly and keep it.

Try the following:
A Little Princess, by Frances Hodgson Burnett
The Series of Unfortunate Events Series, by Lemony Snicket
The Harry Potter Series, by J.K. Rowling
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl

But if you would feel more comfortable reading an adult fiction novel try a book by Dean Koontz, he has very elaborate plot lines and he keeps you guessing. Or if you prefer something with a little mystery and romance try Sandra Brown.

Ask some of your friends what books they really liked. Try a bunch of them until you find one you like. Once you find some books you really enjoy, you'll like reading a lot more.
I've always liked reading, but I never did it much. There were other things I would rather do in my free time. Then I read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (which was a suggestion from a friend) and started reading a lot more in my free time.

First of all, stop telling yourself you hate it. You are only reinforcing the negative feelings. Ask someone to recommend something that she enjoyed and couldn't put down, then give it a try. Discuss it with her as you read it. Sharing with someone adds to the pleasure. The anticipation, wondering what's going to happen next, will capture imagination and make you want to continue. Start with a short story, so it doesn't seem too daunting.
