My old, pathetic peice of junk for a computer needs to be rid of all its extra programs put on by me sister's computer-nerd boyfriend, and the easiest way to do that is to flush out my computer. I can afford to lose everything but my iTunes- enough songs to listen for a solid week without repetition. I would transfer them to CD's , but that would require about 1,000 CDs and too much time. Buying a new computer is financially out of the question. Should I splurge on a portable hard drive? Any other ideas?

The best way, in my opinion, would be to use an external harddrive. If I were in your situation, I would buy one, do the deed and then return it. However, if your PC is getting old it would probably be a good idea to have your songs backed up on an external hard drive in case your PCs hard drive were to become damaged or corrupt.

Go for the portable hard drive - can be used again after you get your computer back on its feet & your music reloaded.

Your computer should have come with some sort of backup utility. Find it, and use it. THen restore the stuff you want from the backup
