Before I answer this question it should be noted that a good Christmas movie should always have the protagonist finds "the true meaning of Christmas" by the end of the movie that's all that matters. Very few movies with this theme actually convey the message but nonetheless are worth watching on television.
Fan favorites such as "It's A Wonderful Life". "A Christmas Story" and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" are in reality films with the theme focused in the plot. Don't get me wrong. I'll watch them each and every year along with every other Christmas special on television. The titles listed above have been part of an ongoing Christmas tradition in my family as long as I can remember.
However the best Christmas movie ever made to date is the original version of "Miracle On 34th Street" that dates back to 1947. 'Sometimes all you ever need is faith' is also a very memorable line that everyone can relate.

The best Xmas movie of all time has to be The Christmas Story with messy Marvin from the Ovaltine commercials. They play it starting Xmas eve for 24 hrs on TBS.. Check it out. Adults and kids love it. If you dont at least like it, there is really something wrong with you.

"A Christmas Story"! It's so funny. I've seen it about a million times, and never get sick of it.
Most people don't believe that it was only made in 1983. It's so true to the story and time period, that most people think it was made in th 50's!
