No. I think it's a story that has been retold and translated so many times that it's nothing like what really happened.

The Egyptians of Pharonic times were reknown for recording everything, especially significant events.
This included victories and defeats.
As this incident would have also included a phenomenal event, according to scripture, this seems very unusual.
It is also very odd that no reference has ever been found regarding a Pharaoh making the Israelites leave Egypt.
A number chose to leave during the reign of Pharaoh Merenptah(1212-1201B.C.) but not all.
Many of those who left returned within a decade or two, due to a shortage of wheat in their place of settlement. This is recorded.
As one of the Answers states, the area where the Bible claims that God parted the seas for them to escape. Then rolled them back again on Pharaoh and his men. Is indeed a swampy region known then as The Sea of Reeds.
There is no evidence of a Tsunami having occurred in the Mediterranean. With the exception of large seas created at the time of the Minoan civilisation's destruction by volcanic eruptions. This was in another time period.
So I would say in dealing with known facts.
There is no evidence that Moses ever commanded God successfully to part the Red Sea.

Yes, however not where most believe. Most believe the crossing was on the Suez canal side of the Red sea. Some even translate red sea to reed sea to support there belief that God didn't really part the sea, however there is evidence the crossing was on the gulf of Aqaba arm. Go to www.anchorstone.com and read about the recent findings. Will answer your question and open your eyes to the truth of the bible.

In Miriam's Song, which is set into the Red Sea story, there is no mention of the sea splitting. Apparently the Egyptians' chariots fouled in the mud, and the Israelites crossed unharmed.
For many stories of the first five books of the Bible, stories from several sources are spliced together. Miriam's Song is thought to be the oldest composition in the Bible, possibly an eyewitness account. Later versions are increasingly spectacular and miraculous.
