I am thinking about getting one. Does it do well in the snowy mountains?

It's an amazing car. As you might already know it is essentially a Nissan Murano with sofer leather and Infiniti badging. Either way both of them are nice, especially the Infiniti. If you opt for the AWD model than it might be adequate for the mountains, however I don't know because I've never driven one in the snow. My assumption is that the FX is not designed for serious off-roading but if moderate snow is your worry I think it should do the job. If you happen to come across a furious snow strom than I think you might be better off with another vehicle. On the pavement the FX35 should give you more than enough performance but if you want to burn tread on every stop light than consider the FX45 which has a 320-hp V8. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Well it is an AWD vehicle...lock it in Snow Mode and your good to go. However, make NO mistake this is an AWD unit and not a 4X4....BIG DIFFERENCE!!!! Let me explain a little....the AWD in the FX is computer done. It does this by sensing the vehicle on the road. If it notices slip in any of the wheels it compensates by using the computer system to direct power to the wheel with the most traction. My suggestion if your doing winter driving at all in either the 35 or 45 model...spend the money (because you are spending lots as it is!!!) and get the proper winter tires for the vehicle. If you contact someone at a dealer they will tell you to drop the tire size too for the best results in winter conditions. Other than that...it's one hell of a sexy vehicle. I use to work at a dealership and had one in the showroom at all times...and I didn't get bored of looking at it the entire time I worked there. Like one of the other's said the 35 is terrific but the 45 is OMG and yes...it even made the girls a little happy!!! (Try driving one of each model, and you'll notice the difference in a heart beat!!!) I had a customer say "I can make my FX drive just like my Corvette, it handles just the same with almost the same performance". Just so you know...another said that it's just like a Murano....IT'S NOTHING LIKE A MURANO! In either the 35 or 45 model it sits more like your driving a car, like the G35. The Murano drives more like a truck...you sit higher. The suspension between the Murano and the FX is totally different and the FX is more sports tuned. Think of the FX as a cross between a sports car and an SUV by looks only. Also there are small differences in appearance also...the FX does have less cargo room than a Murano and does have less back seat room because the front seating is more "car" like. You'll notice too that the hood is different. The leather is top of the line in a FX and obviously comes fully loaded with only one package available in Canada which is the "Tech" package. It's got the best GPS based Navi unit available on the market...and is "stupid" easy to use....but that'll cost you too. Not just because I use to work for a dealer...I LOVE THIS VEHICLE!!!! If I could afford it, I'd have one in my driveway...and maybe even 2! But I have to agree...the "orange" is hot.....lol!!!

I think it's dead sexy. One of the nicer sporty SUV's out there. It's got AWD and traction control. With all-weather radials it should do fantastic in the snowy mountains, unless you are a terrible driver.
I agree about the 45 though, if it's in the budget, go for that. The 35 is good but the exhaust note of the V8 in the 45 gives me a happy feeling in my pants.

I have an orange FX45. THE BEST!!! I drove it to colorado and i was caught in a snow storm and got stuck. But i had lo-prfile tires. So if you get it, get off road tires or snow tires. It would make a lot more sense. MAKE SURE TO GET THE 45 THE 35 IS JUST NOT THE SAME.

Its a good car - except the customer service is a lil lacking - but that varies from dealer to dealer. As far as the mountians - not sure it doesnt snow here in Southern California.
