Older fossils are found deeper underground. Your question doesn't make it clear if the layers go a-b-c or c-b-a from the surface going down. It seems more likely that it would be a-b-c, and in that case the ancestory would be in layer c.

if A is the highest layer (closes to the surface of the ground) a creature the least old would be found there (something like 180 m years.)

in layer B, a creature from 200 m years would be found, this layer is in the middle between the surface and the bottom.

In the lowest layer, let's call it C - this one is the deepest down in the ground, a creature of 250 m years would be found.


warning - this is of course only true if we presume that the ground is formed by steady sedimentation and that each layer is deposited on the top of previous one as the time passes.

Unless the surface has been forced up and folder over, the LOWER down the OLDER the fossil.
