A fish has a head 9 inches long. The tail is equal to the size of the head plus one half the size of the body. The body is the size of the head plus the tail. How long is the fish. Please show me how you arrived at answer cuz I know he will ask. Thanks.

Ok, length of fish = tail + body + head, let's call them t, b, and h respectively.
now we have h = 9
t = h + 1/2 b
b = h + t
Substituting,
b = h + h + 1/2b
= 9 + 9 + 1/2 b
= 18 + 1/2 b
Now subtract 1/2 b from each side and you get
1/2 b = 18 so b = 36
Now t = h + 1/2b = 9 + 18 = 27
h = 9 as given
So the total length of the fish is h + b + t = 9 + 36 + 27 = 72 inches

head = 9 inches
tail(27) = size of head(9) + .5 size of body(18)
body(36) = size of head(9) + tail(27)

9 + 27 + 36 = 72 inches

Hmm impress a guy over a math problem, never heard that one before.

h=head
t=tail
b=body

9=h
t=h+.5b
b=h+t

9=9
t=9+.5b
b=9+t

9+.5b=b-9
b=9

Yikes the fish doesnt have a tail! ACk! hhaha.
Meh to lazy to work it out.

H = 9
T = H + B/2
B = H + T

Three equations, three variables, so this is solvable. I'll let you finish - then you can honestly tell your boyfriend you figured it out yourself. :)
