The cause of this habit came form your toddler years. So it has something to do with your psychological development. Maybe you were once deptoived of something you want during your childhood days (same goes true for young kids thumbsucking). But this goes away once you have jhad your mind set that nail biting is a no..no.. and control it. It is a matter of controlling it. When you feel the urge of biting it, try to do something else. Don't be idle ..do something to redirect your attention. If not, apply nail polish, or lotion onto your hands and fingers that once you bit your nails..it will taste so bad giving your brain the idea not to do it again. Hope this helps, God bless

If you use shaving lotion or cologne that doesn't smell so strong that a little extra isn't gonna make people run away from you (or any other thing you have that may taste like hell), apply some on your nails with a cotton swab.
If you don't get rid of the habit in a while, it would kill you... but at the end you may hate the fragrance and wouldn't use it anymore.
Good Luck!

I tried everything - nail polish, that nasting tasting stuff you paint on your nails, gloves - and nothing worked. So then I read about the germs and gunk on your hands that you can't see. Think about it. You open a door, and you don't know who touched the door knob in front of you. Were they picking their nose? Scratching their butt? But those germs go right on your hands, then in your mouth. Even just putting your hands on a chair or table. What did the person sitting there before you do? Fart? Wet themselves? Rub something nasty on the table? Thinking about these things being in my mouth pretty much cured me!

I hope you wash your hands in between. Best cure is to watch somebody else doing it and notice how utterly revolting they and you are. A good place to start watching is in Kindergarten!

Handle rubberbands...lots of them... chew gum... I've tried everything too but it never works. Rubberbands usually work for me though. Good luck.
