Your game will create a friend code when you first use it to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (WFC). You don't have to connect to someone else to do this - one of the easiest ways is to go to the gate, talk to the guard on the right-hand side, and say you want to open your doors to someone over the WFC. Since you haven't given anyone your friend code yet, nobody will (or even can) come in when you do this. But when you connect, you'll get a friend code if you don't have one already.

Once you have that code, there are two ways you can find out exactly what it is. One is to that to that guard on the right again... he'll have a new option where you can ask him what your friend code is. Another is from the main menu of the game, before you load your saved position: if you ask for more options, you'll be able to trace your way to a bunch of wi-fi stuff, including your friend code.

Those places also allow you to enter other people's friend codes, which is the only way you can visit them over the WFC. You don't need a friend code to visit someone in a direct DS-DS connection... what's more if you visit someone that way who has a friend code it will automatically be saved onto your game as well so that later you CAN visit them over the WFC!

If you've never set up your DS to connect to a local wireless hub, you may have to use the last method to set up the connection as well. Or just walk into a McDonald's - most of those have automatic connections that you can use without setting anything up (it's a special deal they made with Nintendo).

Hope that helps! Have fun!
