I generally say Merry Christmas to people who I know celebrate Christmas, and Happy Holidays to people who I am unsure about.

I say Merry Christmas because that is what I celebrate. Happy Holidays is a crock. If some one is a Jew and celebrates Hanukkah then I'll still say Merry Christmas and they say back to Happy Hanukkah. People who celebrate Christmas or takes the day off should say Merry Christmas. If they want to say Happy Holidays then they should be forced to work on the day December 25th because they don't celebrate Christmas. I know they won't so they're hypocrites!

I have never said mEEry Christmas :-)
I had to tease about the typo... For real though - I often say Merry CHRISTmas, with an accent on Christ. Some look at me funny, but it is a good opportunity to share my faith. Whether you agree with it or not, the holiday is Christmas. :-)

I say Merry Christmas, because most importantly; Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth!! And why say happy holidays which could be said at any time of the year for any Holiday~4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day, MLK Day, etc, etc. This is America, where it has been Merry Christmas since the 1800's so why are people trying to change it now? Granted it is not really Jesus Christ's birthday on December 25th but since no one knows WHAT day He was born on, that is the day that we have been celebrating it on for hundreds of years. So I will continue to say Merry Christmas & Happy Birthday Jesus untill I die!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

I say either one, it does not really matter. Some people may say I would not say Merry Christmas to anyone unless they are a Christian, but if you say Happy Holidays to a non-Christian the effects should be the same. For example,
Happy Holi-day
keyword: holy
See so Happy Holiday is just another way to refer to Christ's birthday.
